Boats that are waxed regularly should not need to be compounded. Compounding is an abrasive process that commonly strips debris as well as previously built-up wax. To check your boat for compounding, run your finger down a fiberglass exterior surface; if there is a moderate to heavy amount of chalk (not to be confused with salt) on your finger, compounding may be required.
